Samsung Evergreen

Do you want to sell or trade your Samsung Evergreen?

Yes? Good, you’re at the right place.

But first, I need you to determine if you want to trade your phone for a better version, or if you want to sell it for cash?

After you decide, we’ll walk you through the steps to cash in or trade up.

In the meantime, let’s review your phone.

Design & Build

Although I appreciate the eco-friendly effort by Samsung, the Samsung Evergreen is a far cry from being … Well, evergreen. By its very definition, evergreen means endless, enduring, eternal, and everlasting. But do you get a sense of timelessness when looking at the Samsung Evergreen? The answer is overwhelmingly a big fat NO.

I know, I know. I shouldn’t be too critical. After all, evergreen is referring to the phone being constructed from 70% of recycled plastic. But do you see the irony? I could understand if the phone was made of wood or glass. But c’mon … Plastic? The only thing eco-friendly about this phone is the retail package made from 80% of recycled paper. Okay, I said I was going to be nice. So let’s move on from the poor decision by Samsung to name a cheap, plastic phone Evergreen, which is discontinued by the way.

The Samsung Evergreen has a 2.4-inch QVGA display with 240 x 320-pixel resolution. The colors are deep. But the text lacks sharpness. In bright light, the display is almost worthless. You can’t see a thing. And the viewing angles are very poor.

I have to say, the 4-way directional pad is large and easy to navigate without too much effort. In fact, the keypad and the QWERTY keyboard are all very responsive and tactile. The keys are spacious and easy to press.

To reveal the keyboard, turn the phone 90 degrees and slide up. The keyboard has four rows and its own 4-way directional pad. Due to the hard tactile buttons, you can easily type for long periods of time before fatigue kicks in. It also has a dedicated messaging button. Overall, the keyboard is a winner.

Features

Personalization is almost non-existent with the Samsung Evergreen. On the homescreen for instance, you can only change the wallpaper. The clock and date has no options to change. But you can change the menu to review as a grid or as a list. That just about wraps everything up for personalization.

The phonebook holds up to 1,000 contacts. And you can add all the usual fields such as phone numbers, emails, pictures, ringtones, etc.

To my surprise, the Samsung Evergreen has an extremely useful feature. It’s called AT&T’s Social Net. It’s an app that aggregates social media messages such as Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter into a centralized hub. It also supports RSSfeed. So you can view and respond to all your social media messages in one place. Superduper convenient.

Speaking of apps, Samsung Evergreen hosts a ton of AT&T’s exclusive apps such as AT&T Navigator, At&T Maps, AT&T Family Map, AT&T Music, and AT&T Radio. There are also third-party apps that include City ID, Mobile Banking, MobiTV, MobiVI, My-Cast Weather. As well as PicDial, Star Tweets, Vlingo, Where, AllSport GPS, and YPmobile.

Other than being made from recycled material, the Samsung Evergreen has three eco applications that’s a testament to its name. The first being Eco Mode, which is located in the display settings. Eco mode reduces power consumption by reducing back-light duration to 10 seconds. And it reduces brightness to level 2. The other eco features are Eco Calculation and Eco Walk. The former measures fuel efficiency. The latter uses a pedometer to monitor how many steps you’ve taken.

Both the camera and camcorder are below the average. It’s a 2 MP camera and it lacks vibrancy in every lighting condition. Pictures look fuzzy and indoor pictures are more like hand-painted art than photos. The camcorder has a max resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. There’s a lot of pixelation and choppy movements recorded in 14 fps.

To wrap things up, the call quality is average at best. And the battery life can get you through the day.
