Samsung Gravity 2

Do you want to sell or trade your Samsung Gravity 2?

Yes? Good, you’re at the right place.

But first, I need you to determine if you want to trade your phone for a better version, or if you want to sell it for cash?

After you decide, we’ll walk you through the steps to cash in or trade up.

In the meantime, let’s review your phone.

Build & Design

Sometimes phones do well enough to warrant an iteration. And that’s the case with the Samsung Gravity 2. There’s a few improvements here and there. But for the most part, the phones look identical although a hair smaller.

Even though the Gravity 2 is made with cheap plastic material, the construction is nice. It’s a solid phone that sits sluggly in hand. Where it lacks, however, is in the display. The display is really, really bad. Not only does it have low resolution, but the viewing angles are extremely poor. Under direct sunlight, it’s almost impossible to see anything.

However, the keypad has a noticeable difference from the original Gravity. The keys are more spaced out and have a better feel and response. There are three large circular buttons (send, end, and okay keys), two small soft keys (messaging, clear/back), and a directional pad. The backlight is also bright, making it very easy to see in the dark.

To reveal the QWERTY keyboard, slide the phone up from left to right. The phone slides up effortlessly and there’s a smooth snappy feel to it. What’s unique about the Gravity 2 keyboard is the top numeric row. Typers can definitely appreciate numbers being assigned to the top. It’s like using a full keyboard. There are four rows in total with two large soft keys on the side. All the keys are evenly spaced from one another, tactile, and easy to use.

On the left side, the Gravity 2 has a volume rocker. The right side has a depicted camera button and proprietary PC connection/charging port. And the back houses the battery, SIM card slot, and microSD slot, which can store an additional 16GB of storage.

Features

The first noticeable feature would obviously be the home screen. The pro is that the screen is simple, nothing complicated. You’ll see a main menu that has a rotating carousel of animated icons. These icons include myFaves, people, messaging, call history, and organizer. The con? Customizable options are very limited. In fact, the only thing you can customize is the wallpaper.

But at the end of the day this is a messaging phone. So having an extensive phonebook is essential. The Samsung Gravity 2 doesn’t disappoint and can store up to 1,000 contacts. It has the usual contact fields such as phone numbers, email addresses, screen names, home addresses, and birthdays.

You can message your contacts in many ways. These include sending text messages, audio postcards, and MMS. If you want to employ the internet instead of cellular service, instant messaging is also available. Your choices are AIM, Windows Live Messenger, and Yahoo Messenger.

The keyboard and messaging features are where it’s at with the Gravity 2 because, believe me, it's not in the camera. The 2 MP camera shoots poor quality shots. No matter how steady your hands are, the image still manages to come out muddy. And the same goes for the camcorder. The resolution is very low at 176 x 144 pixels and the audio is muffled.

Perhaps, the biggest deal breaker with the Gravity 2 is the music player. It’s very basic and it doesn’t play music in the background. For a phone targeted for a younger audience, that’s unacceptable.

Surfing the web is okay. Using the NetFront browser, the Gravity 2 had no problem loading up complex websites. It had decent speed although moving through the site was rather sluggish. To speed things up, you can enable Smart-fit that removes horizontal scrolling.

The call quality is mediocre at best. The sound is audible enough to make out, but it’s a muffled sound. The speakerphone is loud but strainy, especially on the highest volume. Battery life is great though. You get 5.5 hours of talk and 300 hours of standby, which means the battery life can last for days with light use.
