There’s some serious hype surrounding the Google PIXEL 10 line, as the PIXEL 10 and PIXEL 10X models leak their codenames and give us a hint of what could come next from Google’s flagship smartphone series. Rumours and leaks may not be entirely reliable, and it’s too early to say for sure what becomes of PIXEL. But what could we find in store for the Google PIXEL 10? Here, let’s speculate, leak, and technologically prognosticate about what could be in Google’s future.
And just in case that’s not loud enough – new leaks have revealed that Google is preparing to ‘run wild’ with four new members of the PIXEL 10 family. The new codenames, obtained by 9to5Google, reveal that the ‘Frankel’ will form the foundations of the PIXEL 10, while the PIXEL 10 Pro (codenamed the ‘Blazer’), PIXEL 10 Pro XL (‘Mustang’) and the PIXEL 10 Pro Fold (‘Rango’) complete the lineage. Could Google be signalling that its latest devices are ‘built to run’ fast and will bring ‘high performing engine’ to the device space? Maybe. On the other hand… what if the codenames simply mean, well, nothing? Of course, none of this is official confirmation about any future product from Google, and Google hasn’t traditionally used codenames directly related to the horse world.
Courtesy Google, we can deduce quite a bit from the codenames leak, as it reveals that Google is bringing the entire current lineup over to the next generation. We already knew about a potentially interesting PIXEL 10 Pro, but given that the just-launched Pixel 9 Pro is the first one ever sold, Google’s intentions for keeping its compact small-but-mighty smartphone going strong are front and centre.
For people who want big screens but don’t want to pay big bucks, the future isn’t clear. A lack of a PIXEL 10 XL would limit the number of big-screen options for phone enthusiasts who don’t want to play in the higher echelons of the price bracket. A PIXEL 10 Pro XL would be a tempered ray of hope – probably with a matching price tag.
Despite the buzz surrounding the PIXEL 10 series, Google is not finished with the PIXEL 9: a ‘Tegu’ codenamed PIXEL 9a is expected to debut next year at Google I/O 2025, bringing the PIXEL experience to a new audience. It is the third generation of mid-tier smartphones from Google that will continue the tradition of the company offering a high-quality device for everyone.
Good things come to those who wait. In the case of PIXEL aficionados, that might be a while longer, with the PIXEL 10 series not expected to appear until at least August. It will undoubtedly be a scorching summer of conjecture, leaks and, we hope, surprises from Google.
Here I am, casting my mind back nearly a decade to Google’s first PIXEL phones and all the way to the designer-fashion-inspired PIXEL 7a of 2023, part of a Google journey that continues relentlessly pushing the boundaries of innovation and user-focused design. The top-end features and AI integration of the PIXEL 9 series have given us a compelling snapshot of what lies ahead for mobile. And what that means for the PIXEL 10 remains to be seen.
And so, in a sea of smartphones, the PIXEL brand has managed to carve out a personal niche, selling itself on software integration, leading-edge photography and artificial intelligence features, which have left fans anxiously anticipating what more boundaries Google can push with its PIXEL 10 series this year.
Reviews of the new PIXEL 9 and PIXEL 9 Pro can give us a strong hint at where Google might be headed in the next series. Both smartphones were hailed for their radical usage of AI and were regarded as highly effective overall. It’s no secret that the PIXEL 10 models will have to be even better than the PIXEL 9 in terms of AI support as well as photography, and perhaps even take a step further in the direction of more eco-friendly design.
Wrapping up with a sense of reflection, it’s important to remind ourselves about what the PIXEL phone stands for. It is the result of Google’s goal to create a smartphone with a perfect symbiosis of hardware and software quality, a device that is good enough or perfect in the eyes of Google to reflect tech specs, software and hardware development, and the company’s ongoing mission to manufacture the perfect product. With PIXEL 10 series in the pipeline, the PIXEL phone lineage itself has been assured. Users can look forward to using the smartphone powered by Google’s vision of the next-gen technology.
