Soon the digital world is to undergo a change of magnitude never seen before, and a company leading the way once again will be Microsoft. The tech giant is getting ready to release what is its third feature update to Windows 11 – the version 24H2 (2024 Update). But, of course, this is no regular update. It is to be a giant leap forward with the infusion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that will forever change the way this software looks (and feels), and what it is capable of doing for you.
The next major Windows 11 2024 Update will introduce nearly a dozen different AI-infused features, many of which work locally, offering users a more efficient and privacy-preserving experience.
Key to these innovations is the Windows Copilot Runtime, a so-called operating system ‘layer’ that combines more than 40 AI models that can run natively on your machine, from the Phi Silica Small Language Model (SLM) to something called the Screen Region Detector. Microsoft is imbuing Windows 11 with an intelligence of its own.
But the one that’s been talked about the most is Windows Recall, a digital record of everything you do on your screen, brought to you by the magic of AI models and an NPU (neural processing unit). Yes, your work computer will remember your work, which is surely something these workers will want to know more about. Because privacy and security have become important matters lately, Microsoft has announced that they’re adding them to Surface Neo.
From new audio and video features that improve the quality of filters on webcams and microphones through Windows Studio Effects, and make it easier to understand conversations through Live Captions for accessibility, to Auto Super Resolution that allows computers to enhance gaming experiences, all of these features promise wearers value – in measurable ways – through Microsoft’s rigorous testing.
Voice Clarity is a further crown jewel: it ‘reduces background noise in real time so you can be heard clearly when you chat in noisy environments’, mollifying every irritant of digital communication. Nothing is left unswept.
For gamers, the inclusion of a technology like Auto Super Resolution is a milestone. Like competing AI-driven upscaling technology NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution, the Resizable BAR feature automates gamers’ in-game settings, eliminating the need to adjust our settings on a per-game basis or requiring developers to alter their games.
The 2024 Update won’t just become a feature; it will mark a turning point in Microsoft’s view of the future of AI. When Microsoft embeds AI deep into Windows 11, it’s not just improving a product, it’s figuring out how to make software technologies better anticipate our needs, react to our wishes, and make things easier.
We’re not just talking about doing your work for you – the already impressive digital assistant features in Microsoft’s new Cocreator for Paint app and in its new Copilot app – that’s just the start of it.
Microsoft, a company that needs no introduction, is one of the world’s most innovative and reputable technology companies. Microsoft’s software, services, and hardware are popular with individuals around the world and in businesses worldwide. Microsoft has continually expanded the hardware and software technologies, often leading the way forward. With the release of Windows 11, featuring all-new AI-powered features, Microsoft is once again leading the way. The company is not just keeping up with the digital age; it is leading the way into the digital age, setting the standards for the future of technology.
The Windows 11 2024 Update is no mere upgrade. It’s a leap into the future, a product of the visionary thinkers at Microsoft, and a step into a post-human digital world with one of the oldest titans of technology.
