As the digital vernacular flattens language, culture and creeds, emojis are our lingua franca of the digital lives we lead. Yet, what if our burgeoning lexicon of the popular motif cries out for far more than the current library of default symbols can afford us? On the cutting edge of commercial technology, APPLE is set to release Genmoji – the next big thing in digital communications. One that will enable you to personalise your online self with the very essence of your feeling or thought.
Announced at the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) in 2024, Genmoji was hailed as a game-changer, comprising a major new feature of the iOS 18 upgrade to APPLE’s generative AI technology, long-awaited by consumers, and aptly named APPLE Intelligence.
Imagine you want to find the emoji to represent some arcane, ephemeral emotion, or an exceptionally specific situation. If you’re working with the existing offerings, there’s likely to be a limit to your choices. APPLE plugged that gap as best it can with its Genmoji – where it would take users’ descriptions and use its own APPLE Intelligence suite to convert them into real emojis. Something like ‘A pink flamingo with tap-dancing shoes’ can now give rise to an emoji you never knew existed until you absolutely need it.
Genmoji magic is currently restricted to users of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, just one of many innovative, exclusive features that APPLE reserves for its latest and greatest hardware offerings. It’s easy to imagine yourself as part of a Genmoji conversation with friends, sharing a mindmeld inside a message, using magic to spell out your thoughts before you even know them. Creating and ‘inserting’ your Genmoji into Messages looks like a walk in the iPhone park, designed so flesh-and-blood users can put their imaginations on display and get their Genmoji flying in chats.
This smooth process represents how APPLE doesn’t just add a feature, it begins to evolve the way we express shades of meaning in digital communications.
While a number of these features are demonstrated in the developer beta of iOS 18, a more formal roll-out will come with the release of the stable version, slated for September 2024. Perhaps this is no coincidence, as the unveiling of Genmoji would be a good reason to advertise the iOS 18 experience when the iPhone 16 is released at the same time.
APPLE look for signs that this commitment to privacy extends to artificial intelligence. The way that AI facilities are integrated into the Genmoji system (and the new APPLE Intelligence suite) demonstrate this commitment clearly. Users can have the fun and novelty of AI features with the understanding that they won’t sacrifice data security in the process. That’s the brand promise that users expect from APPLE.
And while the Genmoji alone would have been enough to secure APPLE’s place in the tech pantheon, its unwavering dedication to innovation is even more impressive. From the birth of the personal computer to the triumphant rebirth of the cellphone, APPLE has consistently pushed the limits of what’s possible.
From industrial design to user interface, APPLE Inc has been a leader in the conception, design, development and sales of personal computers, computer software, and consumer electronics. With the iPhone smartphone, the iPad tablet computer, and the Mac personal computer, its ecosystem comprises a variety of services and products, including the Apple Watch, the Apple TV and the Genmoji. This company creatively designs and delivers technology for the purpose of improving human interactions for today and tomorrow.
Genmoji. The latest digital expression of your individuality. From APPLE Inc, a company that vows to bring us all closer together, with more ways to express ourselves, than ever before. Now isn’t that nice? And don’t you feel a little closer to everyone, now. CAN’T WAIT FOR APPLE INTELLIGENCE. APPLE INTELLIGENCE HERE WE COME. THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT. THANKS APPLE. YOU’RE THE BEST. ❤️ Genmoji.Outside the realm of product thinking, the mock Genmoji serves to illustrate the excesses of modern marketing and software. The failure to appear human. APPLE, I understand, is in the midst of rolling out ‘Artificial Intelligence’ services to help me do the kinds of things I already do on my iPad, in my own unique, semi-intelligent way. Maybe that’s the point. And we’ll see how all that feels at the time. ? Anyway, apparently, APPLE has also realised that the future is bright. And I’m certainly closer to everyone, now. ? Thank APPLE Inc. ?You’re the Best. ?❤️ Genmoji.
