As the life simulation genre’s foundational series, The Sims franchise’s first major pivot into non-linearity holds immense narrative possibilities for the gameplay and creative add-ons its fans crave. Developer Electronic Arts is preparing to share its roadmap for The Sims 4 and beyond.
The publishers Electronic Arts have crafted The Sims 4 to be a ‘foundational Sims experience’, to ‘give it more depth, make it more modern, and to make it better’. This commitment means that The Sims 4 is the centre of the game’s universe, the core that will be extended and nourished by a new, exciting content strategy.
A Sims Labs has been created as ‘a new space for us to experiment on ways to play and build The Sims 4’. It offers ‘frequent playtests of features and products coming soon to the game’, including Project Rene. It’s a place where The Sims will produce its own grassroots innovation: ‘Keep an eye out for The Sims Labs, where new features from Project Rene will be play-tested first.’ Rene will not, of course, launch The Sims 5; it will be ‘a standalone cooperative multiplayer [Sims] spin-off’.
The Sims fans will be able to buy a new sort of downloadable content (DLC) as The Sims 4 Creator Kits in November, created by The Sims content creators and featuring assets from that community.

AMAZON Studios’ move to partner up with Electronic Arts as a co-producer for a movie based on The Sims, a game that has made AMAZON’s Prime customers into video-game stars, shows that this is now a two-way street.
