More than ever, in our modern, gadget-filled world where taking care of yourself is just as important as getting back that last work email before signing off for the day, choosing which smartwatch to put on your wrist is almost as important as checking that last email. If you’re in the Apple ecosystem, there is a weird contradiction in deciding between Apple Watch Series 9 and the SE model and that’s where this comparison comes in to play, not only to distinguish and emphasise features but also to help you choose the Apple Watch that best suits your lifestyle and needs.
The SE came on the best price range, especially for the Apple Watch SE version that even for people on a budget, paid less than that of the other generations of Apple Watch, as it is the most cost-effective among all. The Apple Watch SE costs $249 for the lowest price. But of course, who would like their Apple Watch to be less featured and have less specifications right? The average price range increase in my opinion is justified with the addition of features and specifications. Apple Watch Series 9 is priced at $399.
It’s the visual difference that is most clear between the two. The absence of a bezel in the Series 9 creates the sense of a more finely tailored display, matched with a sharper resolution, and puts it ahead when it comes to the screen. But the Apple Watch SE’s screen is no slouch. For the price, it’s a decent enough display.
Considerations of style are evident in both the fashion statement that is the Series 9 and its vibrant (Product)Red finish, versus the customisability of the SE that offers the opportunity for subtle elegance. Both versions express the classic Apple aesthetic, but each differentiates itself according to the wearer’s sensibility.
Apple makes it effortless with both devices, embedding feature sets throughout to assist in texting and making calls. And although scribble and dictation are available on the SE, the QWERTY on the Series 9 keyboard makes it more intuitive. You won’t have to reach for your phone all the time, regardless of which model you buy.
Both models are also equipped with a feature called Double Tap, which makes it easier to use by allowing simple gestures to control the various functions. Then there’s Siri. On the Series 9, the digital assistant isn’t just there when you walk into the door, but also when you’re out and about. So you can just speak to your watch to ask it to check your heart rate or set a reminder to drink some water.
The biggest feature difference between the two is that the Series 9 has plenty of health-tracking features, like temperature sensing to detect a fever, ECG testing, cycle tracking and other useful tools for fertility tracking, while the SE is there for people who just need to track their everyday fitness and want something that’s very simple. Sometimes simple is best, and you do not have to complicate things.
As a result, despite perceptions of the Series 9 being more adept in the marathon of battery longevity, in the real world, users of the Series 9 and the SE find they are hard-pressed to find any difference between the two. Both phones are admirably able to sustain the rigours of daily consumption, with the Series 9 just nudging slightly in ahead thanks to fast-charging convenience for the perpetually mobile consumer.
Whether you should decide between Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch SE depends on your needs and budget. If you are a health-conscious user who needs every new feature and the best performance, Apple Watch Series 9 is for you. But if you want to get your foot in the Apple Watch door at a lower price point than the Apple Watch Series 9 but don’t need the latest features, Apple Watch SE is the Apple Watch you need.
In this sense, both watches embody the same premium Apple experience: it doesn’t matter which you choose, because you’re strapping yourself to a device that’s stylish, and also serves to supplement your life in its quest to be healthier and better-connected.
Apple Inc is a global leader in innovation. Its technological designs, such as the iPhone, iPad and Mac computers, have set the trends for the technology sector. Apple has made protecting user privacy a core concern and its design philosophy, as seen in the craft of the Apple Watch Series 9 and SE, with the adjustment of the crown and heart rate sensor based on design principles, showcases the Apple aesthetic: curved edges and symmetry that suggest permanence. Presenting itself as the punctum in the present, Apple’s future designs in 2023 are déjà vu, offering solutions seamlessly integrated into users’ lives. In any future innovations, Apple’s present line of smartwatches is the past of a future where technology meets health for users to always be one step ahead.
