What LG did in the Stylus 3 is make a large screen and stylus available to a larger audience by reducing the cost and also cutting down on specs. 

The key feature of the Stylo is right there in its name. It has a hole in its top-right corner where the pen slides into for safekeeping. The phone is smart enough to recognize when the pen leaves its haven as it immediately opens an icon that provides a shortcut to a set of drawing and note-taking apps. 

The Stylo 3 is a niche product meaning it has a streamlined subset of smartphone users that it appeals to. It is in the same league as Samsung’s Note 8, but the Stylo 3 is an unbelievably cost-effective alternative.

At the time of writing this article, the Stylo 3 is an outdated device. If you’re in the US and own one of these, chances are high that you want to upgrade to a recent and more powerful device like the Galaxy Note 10.

LG Stylo 3 Specifications 

Design info: The LG Stylo 3 may not match the premium and stylish designs of the way more expensive Samsung Galaxy Note devices, but the effort put into its build is just enough. A glance at the device shows that it is made of plastic. That isn’t something to be alarmed about, given its budget price. But despite the cheaper plastic alternative, the brushed metal appearance of the plastic used makes it look more than it is worth.

It has a large surface area or screen area. It is slim at 7.4 mm even though it accommodates a stylus pen in its body. The frame around the screen is fairly thin by today’s standards. You’ll appreciate the black accents of the bezel, and it holds no button or capacitive keys. A silver-colored spine runs along the sides of the device, improving its appearance even more.

On the top right corner is the slot that holds the stylus. The stylus has a feature called palm rejection which, when activated, only permits the stylus to manipulate the screen. This is a perfect feature for sketching as your finger or palm won’t make any accidental marks on the screen as you rest your hand on it. 

The back is all black and clean, offering a strong grip. The camera sits on top with a fingerprint scanner just below its LED. This scanner also interestingly functions as the power button, a weird position for the power/unlock button. Lastly, there’s the rear speaker, and an LG logo placed majestically in the center of the device’s rear side.

Underneath, you’ll find the micro USB port and headphone jack. The volume rockers are on the left, and the right side is devoid of buttons. 

Capacity info: The internal memory of the Stylo 3 is 2GB RAM, while its storage capacity is limited to 16G. Of this 16 GB, only 9.44GB is available to the user, so expandable storage is needed. It supports microSDHC and microSDXC storage expansion of up to 2 terabytes.

Size & Weight info: It weighs 149g with dimensions of 155.6 x 79.8 x 7.4mm.

Display info: The screen is a big one at 5.7 inches. It is easily the highlight of this device if we agree that the LG Stylus 3 is a digital sheet/canvas and pen. The size is necessary to provide enough room for creative work with your fingers and pen, translating to a larger display for videos and documents. Its resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels ensures you have a clear view of images and texts.

This TFT, full HD multitouch capacitive screen has a pixel density of 258 and uses IPS tech. The screen is very responsive to its Stylus, and the pen is easy to use. Even while locked, taking out the pen opens a note-taking area on the screen. 

Camera and video recording info: The LG Stylo 3 has a rear 13MP camera that takes decent pictures. It has autofocus and LED flash but nothing extraordinary. The front camera has a 5MP resolution which is just okay. 

Water-resistance info: It doesn’t offer resistance to water.

Performance info: This smartphone uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 435, 

an octa-core processor with Adreno 505 GPU. It runs on Android version 7.0, which can be upgraded.

Connectivity info: The Stylo 3 supports 4G, is also naturally 3G enabled. There’s no receiver for FM radio or NFC on the device, but you’ll get quad-band GSM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 42, A-GPS, and a micro USB. 

Battery info: The battery capacity is 3200mAh, which is enough power for a whole day on average use. Streaming Netflix and similar tasks drain the battery faster.
