Samsung SGH-T209

Do you want to sell or trade your Samsung SGH-T209?

Yes? Good, you’re at the right place.

But first, I need you to determine if you want to trade your phone for a better version, or if you want to sell it for cash?

After you decide, we’ll walk you through the steps to cash in or trade up.

In the meantime, let’s review your phone.

Build & Design

You know this phone is ancient when it uses Terminator names to define itself. But the T209 is not even close to being a phone sent back from the future. In fact, this phone is so basic I feel like I went back in time to write this review. There’s nothing much to this phone. It’s your run-of-the-mill flip phone with rounded edges and no external antenna. All and all, It’s a simple, sleek compact design.

The dimensions of the Samsung T209 is 3.5 x 1.9 x 1.0 inch. And the weight: 3.2 oz. You can slide this phone in your pocket and forget it’s there, it’s that lightweight. On the front, there’s a post stamp sized external screen. Although the display is monochrome, it does show useful information like date, time, battery life, signal strength, and caller ID.

The backlighting time is rather odd. It doesn’t stay on very long, and it can be hard to see. I wish there’s a way you could change the backlight time in settings but there isn’t. The only way to reactivate the light is to flip the phone open and close.

However, you can adjust the backlighting time for the internal screen. It has a 1.75-inch display, 128 x 160 pixel resolution, and 65k colors. The display is luminescent and the colors are vibrant for what you’d expect from this caliber of phone. Under direct sunlight, the screen can be hard to see. But you can adjust brightness, contrast, and font color in settings.

Underneath the display is the navigation array. There’s a five-way toggle that doubles as shortcuts to the messaging menu, instant messaging, voice recorder, and phone book. There’s also two soft keys, talk and end/power keys, and a clear key.

Although the phone has text and multimedia messaging capabilities, the T209 isn’t a texter’s dream. In fact, it’s a nightmare. The pill-shaped buttons on the keypad are decently sized but flush to the surface. The keys are easy to use but not very tactile.

Other external features include a volume rocker and a 2.5 mm headset jack on the left spine of the phone.

Features

This section is going to be very short because there’s nothing much going on for this phone in terms of capabilities. Like I said before, the T209 is a very basic flip phone. Heck, it doesn’t even have a camera. But it does have an extensive phonebook for what it's worth.

The 3 MB phone can store up to 500 contacts. Each contact can be paired with five phone numbers, an email address, and with a ringtone. You can also assign contacts to groups and pair them with a picture. Considering the phone doesn’t have a camera and the picture won’t show up on the external screen, you’ll have to get real creative. In my opinion, it’s a waste of time.

More features include vibrate mode, Yahoo, ICQ, and AOL instant messaging. There’s also an Alarm clock, calculator, calendar, to-do list, and 1-minute voice menoes. To round it off, you get a timer, a stopwatch, and a unit converter for length, weight, volume, and temperature.

In settings you can personalize the wallpaper, messaging tones, and display patterns. If you want more of any one of these options above, visit T-Mobile via WAP 2.0 Web browser to download. You also get two Java games: SnowBallFight and BubbleSmile.

Talking on the T209 is decent. Voices are clear and it has good quality. However, the volume is a tad bit low and it sounds like you’re using a cell phone. The speakerphone is loud and clear. Samsung rated the battery life up to 5 hours for talk and 8 days of standby time.
