Samsung SGH-T349

Do you want to sell or trade your Samsung SGH-T349?

Yes? Good, you’re at the right place.

But first, I need you to determine if you want to trade your phone for a better version, or if you want to sell it for cash?

After you decide, we’ll walk you through the steps to cash in or trade up.

In the meantime, let’s review your phone.

Design & Build

It’s 2009 and marks one of the last stands for keyboard phones around the world. Smartphones have arrived and they're not taking any names. The first generation of iPhone has been released for two years now after years of developing in secret. At this point, Samsung is still working on the first generation of Galaxy smartphones. So in the meantime, they released the Samsung SGH-T349.

In 2009, there was still a very strong market for keyboard phones. Although market support was starting to dwindle, you had staunch users that weren't ready to give up their old ways. Eventually, they too would succumb to the overwhelming social pressure—and convenience—of owning a smartphone. But until then, the T349, and alike, would make their last stand.

The Samsung T349 is a slab candy bar design that’s sporting a QWERTY keyboard. It’s a little different from the traditional keyboards. Instead of having a full keyboard, the QWERTY keyboard has 20 keys. Each key has multiple functions except for the alternate, enter, and delete key. The keyboard is a little tricky at first, but with practice, you can type pretty fast, especially with predictive text. This nifty feature autocompletes as you’re typing. It’s not as fast as a full-blown keyboard, but it’s definitely faster than a number keypad.

The Samsung T349 is very slim, lightweight, and feels good in the hand. It sports a pearl gray and lime green color. The 2.2-inch screen displays 262k colors and a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels. You can adjust the wallpaper to show calendar, font size and color, background color, backlight, time, and themes.

The navigation array has two soft keys, a four-way toggle with an OK middle key, and a dedicated massaging key.  The four-way toggle doubles as shortcuts to call history, audio postcard, contact list, and create a new message field. Although the send key is flat, all the other keys are easy to use.

On the left side, the Samsung T349 has a microSD card that enables users to add up to 4GB of external memory. A volume rocker is also on the left side. The right side has a camera button and charger jack.

Features

Navigating the Samsung T349 is stupid easy. It’s simple and only has a few menu options. The menu consists of five rotating icons: people, messaging, media, settings, and organizer. And MyFavs is the designated home screen with the option to change.

The 1.3 MP camera takes decent photos and the colors are surprisingly vibrant. While the standard resolution is 176, 220, there’s another five resolutions (320 x 240, 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1280 x 1024) you can change in settings. There are also five white balance settings, nine color effects, a self-time, 4x zoom, and multishot and mosaic shot mode.

The camcorder is absolutely atrocious. The resolution is pitiful even though it has three resolution settings (176 x 144, 160 x 120, and 128 x 96). However, you can record in multiple recording lengths for texts, emails, and storage. Unfortunately, you can't download or watch videos with Samsung T349. Unless, it’s a video you recorded with the phone. The files are just too big for the T349 to handle.

On the plus side, the call quality is good. Calls are clear and volume is sufficient. The phone didn’t pick up any background noise. And the speakerphone filled the room without sounding harsh.

Surprisingly, the T349 can load pretty complex sites. Load time is lengthy, so it’s nothing extratonary but still impressive. Sites look the same as if you were on a computer. Plus, you can scroll sites with the d-pad or volume rocker. Pretty impressive for something that’s not a smart phone.

To wrap things up, the Samsung T349 is running a 800 mAh battery. It provides up to 7 hours of talk time and 12.5 hours of standby time.
