Design info: The Rugby 3 has a sturdy clamshell build, made of hardened plastic and sealed internally to withstand dust, water and take falls without falling apart so quickly. It stands at 4.1 inches when open and is about 2.4 inches when closed, and runs at 0.82 inches from side to side. The slanted grooves that run along the spines provide more grip for the phone when held open. It has a speaker grille at the top of the internal screen. Closed, the external screen shows the time, date, and battery life, then fades after a few seconds. 

Its back panel closes with a type of screw that can be operated with a fingernail to keep the electronic components and battery sealed in watertight. Under the cover are the microSD card slot and the SIM card slot. The screen flips open around a strong hinge that allows smooth motion. 

The keypad is large and made of plastic which means it doesn’t have the soft touch you’ll expect a keypad to have since there’s no rubber used here, but when pressed, it clicks softly. Its ruggedness meets Military specs, able to withstand shock, vibration, humidity, dust, and rain. It has an IP67 certification, so it’ll also survive a fall in the water. 

For a flip phone, the speakers are loud, and they are good too, calls are loud and clear, but for other things, on a loud volume, noticeable distortions in sound quality can be perceived. It has a headphone jack, though, so you can listen to music on the go.

Capacity info: The Rugby 3 has an SDcard port that allows you to expand its storage up to 32 GB. Its internal storage capacity is 256MB with 128MB RAM.

Size and Weight info: With dimensions of 104.1 x 53.3 x 20.3, the Rugby 3 weighs 133 grams.

Display info: The Rugby 3 has both an internal and an external display. The external display is what you see when the phone is closed and lasts only a few seconds. It shows the date and time, and battery level and fades away quickly. The main display, when flipped open, is a 2.4-inch screen with a QVGA display and a resolution of 320 x 240. The screen is bright enough for outdoor use and supports 260,000 colors functioning on a pixel density of 166ppi.

Camera and video recording info: The camera is a single 3-megapixel camera that can record videos in 320 x 340 resolution. There isn’t much to this camera, but this is not a problem for the Rugby 3 since photography is one of the last things it is used for.

Water-resistance info: It is IP67 certified and can survive submersion underwater for up to 30 minutes. 

Performance info: Call quality is the major way to assess its performance, and in Rugby 3, this is just ok.

Connectivity info: The Rugby 3 is powered by a simple UI that was popular on other AT&T devices. You can use this flip phone for simple browsing on a 2G and 3G network. It operates on a quad-band GSM and supports Bluetooth and GPS. You won’t have to worry about data speed since that’s not what flip phones are about.

Battery info: The battery of the Rigby 3 is good enough to provide 9 hours of talk time. On standby, it’ll last as many as 20 days.
