Pick up an iPad Air 2, and you'll immediately understand that Apple is so obsessed with thinness. The device is incredibly thin: precisely 18% thinner than the previous Air, and more stylish. It's difficult to imagine that there are computer components within the device, let alone one as powerful as notebook computers from decades ago.
The thinness of the iPad Air 2 is largely due to a modern optically-bonded display, which effectively removes the distance between the LCD and the top glass.
In 2021, the iPad Air 2 is quite dated. There are better options and next-gen versions of the iPad Air. You can sell your iPad Air 2 for cash or swap it for the recent iPad Air on Gizmogo. Read the last paragraph to learn how.
Design info: Without question, the iPad Air 2 is a colossal accomplishment in the area of iterative improvement.
However, it's almost impossible to tell the iPad Air and iPad Air 2 apart from a distance. The design fundamentals are identical: the same dimensions, polished corners, speaker, exact lighting port, and home button arrangement. The only physical feature absent is the side button, which can be used as a rotation lock or mute switch.
On the iPad Air 2, you can lock with the screen control by swiping up from the bottom of the display. Also, you can mute the device by holding down the volume button.
Capacity info: This ultra-thin tablet runs on 2GB LPDDR3 RAM, paired with a 16, 32, 64, or 128 GB flash memory. As computer pricing goes, the higher the storage, the more dollars you pay. So the most expensive variant is the 128GB model.
Size and weight info: The iPad Air 2 is ridiculously slim at 6.1mm and compact at 437g. That's 1.4mm thinner and 32g lighter than last year's tablet. Despite the thinness, the iPad Air 2 is incredibly sturdy – the aluminum back feels robust and has a subtle texture that makes it easier to handle.
Display info: Rocking a 9.7-inch display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536, the iPad Air 2 maintains the same screen as the iPad 3. It has the same Retina pixel count as the iPad 3 released in 2012, which is more than satisfactory.
However, critics accuse Apple of creative negligence. Compared to its Android competition, Apple does not make radical changes to the design and features of its iPad Air or iPhone lineup.
Even so, we should applaud Apple for making the iPad Air 2 thinner by bonding the monitor. Apple says that bonding the monitor and applying an antireflective coating to the iPad Air 2 reduces reflectivity by 56%.
Water-resistance info: Like other iPads, the Air 2 is not water-resistant.
Chip info: Apple's latest A8X chip, a version of the A8 used in the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, is housed within the iPad Air 2. Reportedly, the new chip is insanely smooth — notably easier to load web pages and open applications than my iPad Air. Game developers will love the iPad Air 2's graphics capability.
Camera info: Apple says that iPad users place a high emphasis on the camera. According to Tim Cook, the iPad is ideal for photography since the big screen serves as a fantastic viewfinder.
If you like taking pictures on your iPad, you'll be happy to know that the iPad Air 2 now has an 8-megapixel iSight sensor. It's similar to, but not the same as, the one on the iPhone 6. This is a significant improvement over the iPad Air's 5-megapixel camera, and the images speak for themselves.
Aside from the better image quality, the iPad Air 2's camera has a few new tricks. You can use burst mode to take continuous shots, ensuring that you don't skip that fast-moving action shot.
The front-facing FaceTime camera on this device is only 1.2 megapixels, but Apple says it has increased low-light accuracy by more than 80%.
Videography: The rear camera can capture slo-mo footage in Full HD video at 1080p. The camera interface is sleek, easy to use, and produces good videos. Also, you don't have to worry about the audio quality as the dual microphones capture sound effectively.
Battery info: As it turns out, Apple achieved the impressive 6.1mm thinness of the iPad Air by shrinking the size of the battery. The iPad Air 2's battery capacity has decreased from 8,600mAh to 7,340mAh. Regardless of the change, Apple says that battery life has not reduced, and it has made the processor's energy-efficient to improve battery life.
The iPad Air 2 recharges decently. Independent tests show that one hour of charging provides 30% of the battery, two hours provides 60%, and three and a half hours charge completely fills the battery.
