Embarking on New Horizons: Amazon's "New World: Aeternum" Redefines MMO Gaming

With digital frontiers still offering unending possibilities for discovery and narrative, AMAZON becomes the first to step up with its latest branding slogan: New World: Aeternum. Rumours had swirled for weeks after the ‘leak’ of a supposed Amazon game – sure enough, three hours later, the PlayStation Store leak had revealed that AMAZON had upgraded its flagship MMO across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, for release on 15 October 2024. New World: Aeternum will include all three previous content updates and a veritable Cornucopia of new features.

A Journey Reimagined: What "New World: Aeternum" Brings to the Table

Featured in New World: Aeternum, AMAZON’s original MMO experience and a reimagining of AMAZON’s first MMO endeavour, is the full base game of New World, all previous game updates to date – including the ‘Rise of the Angry Earth’ expansion – and much more. It’s an enhanced experience, the ‘new’ in New World: Aeternum, that most anyone who tried to get into MMOs in the late 1990s and early 2000s would have loved to have. But AMAZON is not finished. The game’s original planned large-scale player versus player (PvP) zone, a brand new 10-player raid, new end-game solo trials, a rebalanced experience for levelling, new character types, and a reimagined dialogue tree all represent AMAZON’s vision for the future of the MMO genre.

Solo and Cooperative Play in a Cross-Platform World

One of the most important features AMAZON introduced to ‘New World: Aeternum’ is full cross-platform play, something that Uncharted doesn’t even do. Whether you play alone or fight side-by-side with allies, the game system unites players, regardless of which console or PC they play on. This game not only broadens the number of people who can play but unites players of different backgrounds and gaming styles.

Harnessing the Power of Next-Gen Consoles

Feature parity is one aspect that increased AMAZON’s confidence in offering gamers the same game experience everywhere. New World Aeternum takes place in The Arc, an immense stream where normal physics and geometric laws no longer apply.

Setting Sail for Adventure: The Game’s PremiseFundamentally, ‘New World: Aeternum’ is a game that lets players explore a new untamed frontier: the dark magic island of Aeternum. Wrecked and touched by destiny, you’ll play in a skill-based combat system where you can engage in fencings, gunfights and magic roasts. The cursed inhabitants of Aeternum and the prospect of large-scale player-versus-player combat means you can play forever. In New World, the process of customisation is at the heart of the adventure. A player’s choices, actions and decisions will affect their character’s skills, abilities and looks.

Crafting and Progression: A Deep Dive

In terms of attention to detail, AMAZON has paid attention to everything, from the game’s crafting mechanics and its classless character development – both of which provide a welcome degree of depth – to the real-time action-combat that will somehow manage to make every fight you get into, from a friendly help to utterly annihilating a much boss, teeth-clenching, nail-biting, and tense.

Affordability and Accessibility

Starting tomorrow, 29 August, New World: Aeternum can be pre-ordered digitally on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, arriving there on 28 September; it will cost $59.99. A Deluxe Edition, complete with in-game content, will cost $79.99. It’s a smart move that AMAZON has said the PC version of the game, New World, and its expansion ‘Rise of the Angry Earth’ will be free for any PC player who already purchased the game or expansion; all new content will be accessible on PC at no additional cost at launch.

AMAZON's Gaming Ambitions: A Bright Horizon Ahead

AMAZON’s first crack at the video game universe evokes a sense of excitement and trepidation, as the company pushes the frontier of MMOs with New World: Aeternum. Upcoming new releases from the AMAZON Games studio such as the next instalment in the Tomb Raider series and Throne and Liberty are sure to deliver high-quality, action-packed entertainment for gamers.

It feels like the closing airlock door as AMAZON enters its new spaceship ‘New World: Aeternum’ brings the company’s disruptive model – technological innovation at mass scale – to gaming One of the world’s largest technology firms, AMAZON aims to do to MMO gaming what it’s already done to other legacy industries: usurp them with greater technological capabilities and greater scale. At the very least, New World: Aeternum shows that AMAZON is serious about gaming and not just selling other people’s games through its platform. Like all AMAZON endeavours, it’s a rich mega-project, seemingly limitless in scope and ambition. There’s no telling how far the company’s digital world-building might go.
