PlayStation Plus Is Removing 10 Games Soon: August

Sony is removing 10 titles from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, so PS Plus Extra and Premium members have limited time to play them on PS5 and PS4.

Once Sony removes a game from the Game Catalog, you need to buy it separately to keep playing it, even with an active PS Plus subscription. This August 2026 update includes games that may be worth prioritizing before their access window closes.

You can check the confirmed list of games leaving PlayStation Plus in August 2026 and decide which Last Chance to Play title fits your time.

August 2026 Games Leaving the Game Catalog

Nine PlayStation Plus Game Catalog titles left on August 18, 2026. If you did not claim or purchase them separately, you now need to buy them through the PlayStation Store to continue playing.

Full List of Departing Titles

The August rotation removed the following games from the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium Game Catalog:

Game

Type

Dead Island 2

First-person zombie action RPG

Earth Defense Force 6

Co-op alien-invasion shooter

Unicorn Overlord

Tactical RPG from Vanillaware

Harold Halibut

Narrative adventure

Clash: Artifacts of Chaos

Action-adventure

Roki

Folklore-based puzzle adventure

Onee Chanbara Origin

Hack-and-slash action game

Bomber Crew

Strategic bomber-management game

Space Crew: Legendary Edition

Spacecraft-management strategy game

The nine Game Catalog games departing in August included several games with very different time commitments. Unicorn Overlord can require dozens of hours, while Roki and Harold Halibut suit players looking for more contained story-focused experiences.

Removal Date and Where to Check It

These titles left the catalog on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, which was the third Tuesday of the month. The removal ended Game Catalog access even if you had downloaded a game previously or kept it installed on your PlayStation 5.

You can check future departures in the Last Chance to Play area of the PlayStation Plus section on your console. The PlayStation Store also shows whether a title remains included with your current membership tier before you download it.

Games added through the Game Catalog differ from monthly PlayStation Plus games. You do not keep catalog games permanently through an active subscription after they leave, unless you purchase them separately.

Which Games to Prioritize Before They Leave

Prioritize Unicorn Overlord if you want a substantial tactical RPG, particularly if you have not played a Vanillaware game before. Its tactical battles, unit customization, and large campaign made it the most time-intensive departure in this group.

Choose Dead Island 2 or Earth Defense Force 6 if you want straightforward action, especially with friends. Dead Island 2 focuses on melee combat and zombie missions, while Earth Defense Force 6 offers large-scale co-op battles against insects, aliens, and other invaders.

For shorter, more focused experiences, start with Roki, Harold Halibut, or Clash: Artifacts of Chaos. Bomber Crew and Space Crew: Legendary Edition work best if you prefer managing crews and responding to escalating missions rather than following a conventional action campaign.

What Removal Means for Subscribers

When games leave the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, your subscription no longer provides access to them. Your saves usually remain on your console or in cloud storage, but you need another valid way to access each game.

Catalog Access Versus Monthly PlayStation Plus Games

The reported 10 games leaving PlayStation Plus soon apply to the Game Catalog included with PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium. Once PlayStation removes a catalog title, you cannot launch it through your membership, even if you added it to your library or installed it before the removal date.

This rule differs from the monthly PlayStation Plus games claimed through the PlayStation Store. If you claimed a monthly game while eligible, you can normally keep playing it as long as you maintain an active PlayStation Plus subscription at the required tier.

Game type

Claimed monthly PlayStation Plus game

Check the Game Catalog’s “Last chance to play” area and the individual game page. It identifies games leaving PS Plus and helps you prioritize games with longer campaigns.

Save Data, Purchases, and Continuing Progress

A removal does not normally erase your save data. Your local saves stay on the console unless you delete them, and cloud-saved data remains available to eligible PlayStation Plus members under PlayStation’s storage rules.

You can continue your progress if you buy the game digitally, use a physical disc when supported, or regain access through another service. A purchase made before removal typically grants access independently of the subscription service, although editions, regions, and add-on ownership can affect compatibility.

If you plan to buy a departing game, verify that you select the same PlayStation version you played. PS4 and PS5 editions may use separate save files, and some games require a specific upgrade path to transfer progress.

Also check DLC. You may own expansions or cosmetic content, but they generally require the base game to remain playable.

Why Catalog Titles Rotate

PlayStation rotates catalog titles because its licensing agreements with publishers and developers have defined terms. When those agreements end, PlayStation may remove a game even if it remains popular or still appears in another storefront.

This model is common across subscription services. Xbox Game Pass also adds and removes games as Xbox licensing arrangements change, while Nintendo usually relies more heavily on individual purchases and its own subscription benefits.

A game’s removal does not necessarily signal delisting from the PlayStation Store. You may still be able to purchase it, and it may return to PlayStation Plus later if PlayStation reaches a new agreement. Availability can also differ by region, so confirm the listing in your local PlayStation Store before making plans.
