A Father's Day Feast of Action: Top Netflix and AMAZON Picks to Watch With Dad

As Father’s Day approaches, a good way to bond with dad is to share our mutual interests with him and spend some quality time together. And for movie lovers like me and my old man, what better way to spend Father’s Day than to sit on the couch and watch some action-packed adventures on Netflix? Whether he likes chasing cars, being the hero, or the ones on the edge of their seats, the streaming site has a great selection of movies for him to indulge. Strap yourselves in and get ready for some of the most popular Netflix action movies that are perfect for celebrating Father’s Day.

Revving Engines and Rhythmic Beats: "Baby Driver" (2017)

First up is ‘Baby Driver’, which combines fast cars, illegal bank jobs and a lot of great music. In this Edgar Wright-directed movie, a young master thief who loves driving almost as much as he loves music works as a getaway driver for high-stakes bank jobs. He relies on the tunes he’s created himself on his personal iPod to become the best on the scene. But when he tries to escape his life of crime, he soon realises it’s not going to be as easy as he’d hoped. ‘Baby Driver’ delivers a visual spectacle, with eye-catching car stunts and vivid music to go with a fast-paced story.

Denzel in Action: "The Equalizer" (2014)

Denzel Washington is perfect as the titular, if rather unassuming, action hero of The Equalizer (2014). The film tinkers with the action formula, lending it a moralising edge, as the vice-principal-turned-more-darkly-obsessed extraordinaire is forced – begrudgingly – to return to the world, righting the wrongs, using his unique skill set. It’s pulpy and grimy and lean, full of profanity and possessing an undoubted, if hollower-than-a-potato, satisfaction, as the bad guys get what we know they truly deserve.

A Historic Monster Battle: "Godzilla Minus One" (2023)

For dads who like their history served with a side of monster movies, Godzilla Minus One is a Cold War-era prequel to the Godzilla saga. Set during the Second World War, it’s a monster movie that also tells a human tale, exploring how the film’s monster came to be and the people who first encountered it. Godzilla Minus One is both a monster movie and a portrait of human strength and spirit in the face of ultimate adversity.

A Tale of Vengeance: "Oldboy" (2003)

And it remains one of the most powerful movies of its kind more than two decades after its release. A man imprisoned for 15 years inexplicably goes on a spree of brutal revenge on those responsible. From beginning to end, Oldboy is a thrill, a twisty, turny, ferocious, breathtaking tale. The visceral fisticuffs of its headline-grabbing hall-of-mirrors fight scene sets the film apart as a cult classic.

The Ultimate Heist Gone Wrong: "Triple Frontier" (2019)

In Triple Frontier, former special operatives plot a heist that goes awry. The movie stars Oscar Isaac and Ben Affleck, and melds brotherhood, action and consequence in a way that will entertain the whole family but still feel realistic enough for Dad.
